A personal message from Richard Barnbrook

I would like to send my personal condolences to the family of the brave Sikh Sukhwinder Singh who was tragically murdered last Friday whilst attempting to thwart a mugging. In particular I send my commiserations to his ten-year-old Son Gurjinder Singh, and wife Sandeep Kaur, Karamjit Kaur, the mugging victim, was treated in hospital for shock. I wish her a speedy recovery.
Knife crime is a serious issue for us all. This latest victim was not only an innocent party but was carrying out a civic duty in seeking to protect a fellow citizen.
I am sure that the Police will work tirelessly to catch Mr Singh’s evil murderers as soon as possible. I pledge to support all reasonable measures they see fit to take knives off our streets. Whilst such crime reflects the seedy underbelly of our Capital we must remember that the selfless and honourable actions of Mr Singh reflect the positive. The best way to honour his memory is to rid the streets of Barking & Dagenham of the scourge of knife crime. To that end all political representatives, the Police and the wider community must hold hope in their hearts, isolate the violent and anti-social and work together to ensure that no more families suffer. Let’s also come together as a community to give due respect and honour to a brave man who acted to defend others.
