The Housing Shortage- the writing’s on the wall!

You can't fit a quart into a pint pot!
I really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry this week, when I read a headline report about yet another benefit scandal involving a former asylum seeker and his prodigious family. That such flagrant abuses are permitted to occur in the first place almost takes my breath away! Save for the fact that nothing surprises me any more these days.
Even so, this one really takes the biscuit in so far as a 50 year old Somali and his family of 9, yes, that’s right, nine- his wife, his ‘pensioner’ mother-in-law and seven of his children- apparently he’s got an eighth one, also housed at public expense, in Camden. They enjoy living in a home worth £1.8 million plus which costs the British taxpayer a mere £83 000 a year to rent. Needless to say, the couple are both jobless, so the expansive accommodation in Central London, fitted up with all mod cons is being paid for by housing benefit, for which you and I pick up the tabs.
Is this crazy or what? But then pardon me, it really isn’t very ‘PC’ to complain about the benefits given to new-comers, let alone question why such people have come here in the first place, even though the answer is as plain as your nose!
What the Establishment won’t take on board is the fact that the present housing situation is in interminable crisis, simply because there isn’t enough to go round, and unless something is done to stop all further in-comers, full stop, the situation is set to get worse. Because as I keep saying, you can’t fit a quart into a pint pot! And I’m not apologising for using a non-metric metaphor either!
