MAYORS QUESTION TIME – 18-11-09
Posted on 19. Nov, 2009 by Richard Barnbrook in Latest News
After a tricky time of late dealing with the Disciplinary Hearings brought against me at the GLA and Barking and Dagenham Council, I am back to keep everyone updated on the latest goings on at City Hall. Our oral question this month dealt with the difficulty elderly people have in obtaining assistance through the winter.
The endless form filling puts the elderly off claiming as well as the fact that many of our elderly are too proud to claim what they percieve as “something for nothing”! Maybe that’s a virtue some of the new arrivals to these shores should adopt, at least the elderly have paid in all their lives!
I am glad to highlight the plight of our senior citizens and whilst its not currently within the GLA remit to assist in the manner I suggested, I will continue to highlight their plight in order that as many as possible get the assistance this winter that they deserve. Too many of our elderly suffer in winter through neglect.
Glad to be back with you once again!
